Apple Nut Butter Crisp is a delightful, grain free variation on one of my childhood favorites…
My mom used to make apple crisp for us when I was a kid and I loved her. Her topping included oatmeal, butter, cinnamon and brown sugar, which was delicious. I recently came up with a grain free option, but now I have added a twist and it’s DELICIOUS! This Apple Nut Butter Crisp is a combination of the warm, soft cooked apples and the topping is reminiscent of peanut butter cookies.
Ingredients for Apple Nut Butter Crisp:
6 to 8 organic apples cored and sliced
1/4 cup of grass fed butter
1/2 cup nut butter (Almond butter or peanut butter work well)
1/2 cup sucanat
dash of sea salt
Place sliced apples in a casserole dish or stoneware and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sliced or cube butter and distribute evenly over the apples. Mix all other ingredients thoroughly in another bowl and then sprinkle evenly over apples and butter. Bake for 20 minutes! Voila!
I served this with plain yogurt on top and my kids gobbled it up! Very kid friendly, grain-free breakfast!
