Paleo Chocolate jello substitute – Dark, fudgy and rich!
My kids are becoming experts at reading labels and recognizing processed food. But they still love sweets and treats. Chocolate is a big hit at our house and so is this Paleo Chocolate jello…
It al started with our hot chocolate that turns into choco-gel pudding, which we discovered on accident after adding grass-fed gelatin to our hot chocolate (which, by the way makes it, thick and CREAMY). At our house we drink raw milk, but we have friends who can’t have dairy and we wanted to find something nice to serve when they come visit. So I tweaked the recipe a little bit and came up with Paleo Chocolate Jello substitute, which is grain-free, dairy-free and has no refined sugars. But is rich and decadent.
Recipe for Paleo Chocolate Jello
2 cans of coconut milk
3 TBSP grass-fed gelatin
1/4 cup raw cacao or unsweetened organic cocoa powder
1/4 cup of maple syrup, Honey or a sprinkle of stevia (add more or less according to taste).
Put in a stainless steel saucepan and whisk all ingredients until combined. Warm over medium heat until bubbles begin to form. Pour into desires container and chill in the refrigerator until firm. These also make delicious fudge pops, if you pour them into popsicle molds and freeze.
Do you have a favorite sweet, healthy treat! Please share it with me! I am always looking for great ideas to feed my kids!
Enjoy your paleo chocolate jello and let me know how you like it!

My take on this isn’t paleo, but it’s vegan and I think it’s not only healthy but also calorie-free: use agar-agar instead of gelatin 😉
Some info on agar-agar found on the internet: “Agar is a good source of calcium and iron, and is very high in fiber. It contains no sugar, no fat and no carbohydrates. It is known for its ability to aid in digestion and weight loss. It carries toxic waste out of the body. It is also used in some parts of the world to treat hemorrhoids. Other benefits associated with agar are its ability to reduce inflammation, calm the liver, and bring relief to the lungs. It is also considered a mild laxative and not recommended for those with weak digestion or loose stools.”
I’ll definitely try your recipe with the agar powder 🙂

Have you made this with raw milk instead of the coconut milk? I really want to make it with raw milk because that’s what we drink as well!! Thank you for the recipe.

Yes, I have. It’s good too, but it doesn’t get the fudge texture, it’s more like jello.
