You want some sweet, delicious dried fruit? But how the heck do you make dried fruit without a dehydrator?
Not to worry. It’s so much easier than you think. You can make any dried fruit without a dehydrator, but I am using pineapple to show you how because dried pineapple is like candy. It becomes so incredibly sweet and caramelized. I was barely able to take these pictures before my kids scarfed this down. Also, you may have noticed when you buy dried fruit in the store that is often has preservatives, sugar or some kind of oil on it. These are completely unnecessary when you make dried fruit without a dehydrator at home.
Instructions to make dried fruit without a dehydrator:
Start by cutting your fruit. Cut it bigger than you want it to be, since it will shrink a lot in the drying process.
Spread the fruit out on a broiler pan (you know, the kind with the little slots that lets juices drip down?) and put it in the oven on it’s lowest setting. For me it says “warm”. Then crack the oven for circulation and leave it for the day. I checked on mine every hour or two to make sure it was still there. By the afternoon it started smelling amazing and we stole a couple pieces to eat, but it wasn’t really good and dry until evening.
Once they are as dry as you want them to be, take them out and let cool. I like mine to be a little flexible and soft in the middle still. See? That was easy to make dried fruit without a dehydrator!!!
What is your favorite dried fruit?
